Anchorage

ABC's of Caregiving


All classes are held at the Anchorage office and offered twice a day on the date of the class
10 a.m. to 12 noon and 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

February 13 - Relationships, Intimacy and Sexuality

We face many changes as we age and intimacy with a spouse can be one of them. Dementia can also increase confusion, frustration and tension which takes away from our most important relationships. Let us provide some tips and tools to ease this transition.

February 20 - Meaningful Activity and Purposeful Days

Join us for a discussion on caring approaches that support strengths, accomidate limitations and create opportunities for meaningful activities and purposeful days for individuals living with dementia and those who care for them. This class will only be offered from 10 a.m. - 12 noon

March 19 - Late Stage Alzheimer's Disease and End of Life Care

Honoring connection with whose we love during late stage dementia requires knowledge, skill and support. Join us for a discussion on the many ways to provide comfort and care while considering important end-of-life issues.




Savvy Caregiver
The Savvy Caregiver is a 6-week class for caregivers who care for a loved one with dementia. This class focuses on family dynamics, the stages of dementia and caregiving with time for group feedback and discussion. It is free to family members but registration is required. Two sessions will be offered starting in January.

Tuesday Nights (6-8 pm):
Class starts January 24th and is held each Tuesday for the next six weeks.

Wednesday Days (10 am -12 pm):
Class starts January 25th and is held each Wednesday for the next six weeks.

Dementia Care Essentials
Dementia Care Essentials (D.C.E.) is a five week program designed for direct care workers wanting to improve their skills when caring for individuals with dementia. Participants who complete all requirements will receive a Certificate of Competency for 10 credit hours. Registration is required $125.

February 22nd - March 21st
Class is held each Wednesday (1-3 p.m.) for five weeks.

ABC's of Caregiving
All classes held at the Palmer office and run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

February 16 - Matters of the Heart

Join us to celebrate National Heart Month! This is a great time to look at how what we do to keep our heart healthy can also have a significant impact on the health of our brain.

March 21 - Preventing a Fall

Each year thousands of older Americans fall and are seriously injured. A fall is often due to hazards that are easy to overlook but also easy to fix. Join us to learn some suggestions that may help to prevent a fall.

The Savvy Caregiver is a 6-week class for caregivers who care for a loved one with dementia. Classes are FREE. Registration is required.
Next session February 23 - March 29, every Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m.

ABC's of Caregiving
All classes are held at the Fairbanks office and offered twice a day on the date of the class
3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

January 30 -
Bathing Without a Battle
Learn how to implement "person-centered" techniques to make bathing and hygiene more comfortable and respectful for the person with dementia.

February 27 - Dementia with Dignity
Caring for people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia can be challenging. this is a practical guide which focuses on our approach to caregiving.

Savvy Caregiver
The Savvy Caregiver is a free 6-week education program for caregivers who care for a loved one with dementia. Weekly classes are two hours with lecture and group discussion. This class focuses on improving the practice of caregiving. Two sessions will be offered starting soon.

February 29th - April 4, 2012. Class is held each Wednesday for the next six weeks.

Thursday Nights (6 pm - 8 pm):
March 1 - April 5th, 2012. Class is held each Thursday for the next six weeks.
