Education

One of the Alzheimer's Resource Agency goals is to educate individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, their caregivers, professional care providers and the community on the comprehensive issues related to Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout the year, we offer several programs:

Education for Family Caregivers

ABC’s of Caregiving-Short workshops for people caring for persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders. The ABC’s programs are offered in Anchorage, Palmer, Fairbanks and Juneau. Some of the topics covered are legal issues and Medicaid/Medicare concerns.

Savvy Caregiver Program- An education program designed to provide people caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease an opportunity to learn better coping skills.

Education for Professionals

Dementia Care Training: This program targets people who work with individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders to include: respite workers, personal care attendants, care coordinators, home health workers, adult day, assisted living home, and long-term care staff. The program offers an overview of Alzheimer’s disease, understanding the dementia experience, communication skill development and enhancing activities of daily living in its two-day skill-building workshop.

Distance Delivery “Introduction to Alzheimer’s Disease” is an educational manual designed to provide personal care workers with an introduction to the topic of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD). The guide will give rural care providers important information on the disease they might not otherwise be able to access. The Self-Study Guide is a way to learn valuable information on Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders and earn 7.2 CEU’s. You will find this educational manual helpful as you provide the very important care that our aging population needs.

Education for the General Public

Annual Research Forum-Latest Research and discussion on Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. The forum is a free event offered once a year to the general public.

Winter Workshop-Presentations and discussion to professional care providers and family caregivers on caregiving issues.
