Individuals with Alzheimer’s
For Individuals with a diagnosis
You are not alone…
If you have been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, remember you are not alone. Support and resources are available throughout Alaska. A diagnosis does not mean life needs to stop moving forward. At Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska we have a number of programs and services to support you in this next phase of your life.
Support groups are available throughout the state as well as the following programs. Check your local calendar to see the schedule in your area.
Mind Matters is an education and support program for individuals with early memory loss. This program goes beyond the confines of a traditional support group and offers participants a chance to share experiences while engaging in a variety of meaningful activities including volunteering, gardening, writing and listening to guest speakers. Participation requires pre-screening and enrollment. Contact your local office to see if this program may be right for you.
Art Links is an art program that provides a vehicle of self-expression for an individual with memory loss. Art Links sessions are held in Anchorage, Palmer, Fairbanks and Juneau. If you are interested in participating contact your local office. Family and friends are invited to participate.
Mental Fitness is a socially and mentally stimulating program to help improve or maintain mental activity. Participants do not need a diagnosis to participate. Classes are held in our offices throughout the state or at local senior centers.
For more information on any of these programs or to see if one is right for you or a loved one, contact your local office.
Free confidential consultations are available for individuals, families and professionals to offer guidance in planning for the course of progressive dementia and other medical conditions. This is typically the first step in learning about what resources are available and other considerations you may need to plan for in the future.
Consultations can be held in-person or by phone. Contact your local office to schedule one today.
