San Diego Looks to Divert Memory Loss Patients from Jails & ER’s

Confusion can cause people with severe memory loss to unintentionally harm themselves or others, often resulting in trips to the hospital emergency room or even an arrest.

Mary Ball, chief executive of the nonprofit group Alzheimer’s San Diego, vividly remembers a couple her organization helped for years. Certain sounds transported the husband, a veteran suffering from memory loss, back to his battlefield days.
