Art Links – Connect Virtually, Statewide

April 2 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Come and share the joy of Art Links with us via Zoom! Art Links is a social support program that promotes engagement for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias or seniors at risk of isolation and depression. By using a variety of creative art ideas, we promote self expression as well as socialization and meaningful connections.

This Thursday’s session features a special guest:
Barbara Thomas, a Mat-Su Valley historian, will join us to share fascinating stories about the 1935 Matanuska Colony Project during the Great Depression. She will also share personal memories of building and playing in a Colony Barn, an important structure on every farm. The Colony Barn her family built still stands today and is part of the visitor center at the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer.

Following Barbara’s presentation, participants will enjoy drawing a Matanuska Colony Barn scene along with music, including John Denver’s Thank God I’m a Country Boy!

Participants enjoy:

  • A variety of artistic mediums
  • Music and movement
  • Memory rich conversations
  • Activities facilitated by ARA staff and local artists

Supplies to have on hand:
Plain white paper, a pencil, and colored pencils or watercolors. Crayons and markers work too.

Free to attend. No registration required. Share with friends and family.
