ARA & Social Media

ARA uses social media platforms that allow us to tell our organization’s story. Done well, social media messages can help us engage supporters, capturing and retaining their attention. Social media can increase awareness of our agency and what we do, which may support fundraising efforts while also directing our message to the people that need our services.

Our Education team also runs a private Facebook Caregiver Support Group, where family caregivers can share stories, ask questions and interact with the ARA Education Team.

.

What’s a hashtag?

When hashtags are used on social media platforms, they allow other people to find messages and follow themes, conversations and campaigns that they might be interested in. Hashtags have the simple but powerful ability to spread messages across social media networks, highlighting important messages that otherwise may have gone unnoticed. You can think of hashtags as keywords that are relevant to the posted information that the post author includes using the # symbol. How do I tag someone?

When you tag someone on Facebook or Instagram or tag a business on a Facebook post or photo, you identify them and essentially “linking” them in your post. To tag, simply type the @ symbol and then the start of the person’s or business’s profile name. The name should pop up as an option.

What is a Facebook group? Do we have one?

.

Groups are a place to communicate about shared interests with certain people. You can create a group for anything — your family reunion, your after-work sports team or your book club. Groups help Facebook users socialize around any topic or community.

Aside from our private Facebook Caregiver Support Group, historically we have created groups around fall and spring fundraising events at ARA.

.

Can people see what other people comment on my posts?

Anyone who can see a post can see comments made on that post. Always check the privacy setting of the posts you’re commenting on. BeWebSmart.com offers more details on how privacy settings work in this article.

.

How can I see what my organization posts on social media?

Follow our accounts (linked at the top of this page). When you follow us, our posts will appear in your feed for each platform as we post them. The more people who “like” and engage with our posts the more weight each platform gives to how many people to show them to. So if you are following hundreds of people on Facebook it may take a while to scroll through all their posts in your feed but the posts that gain the most engagement will appear higher in your feeds.

Of course, you can also see all our posts on our page for each platform – linked at the top of this page.

.

What’s the difference between following and liking a page on Facebook?

When someone likes a page, they are showing support for that page. A follow is a person who has chosen to see updates posted by a page on his/her news feed.
